At the Serbian Table

At the Serbian Table began with a question: what does Serbia really taste like?

For Clémence Girin, Eva Juric and Alexandra Maljean, answering it meant leaving Belgrade and going on the road.

Between 2024 and 2025, the three French friends travelled across Serbia in every season, from the plains of Vojvodina to the mountains of the west and the culinary traditions of the south and east. Over four trips and eight weeks on the road, they made 82 stops, tasted 121 regional specialties and met 125 people.

They followed recommendations, knocked on doors and sat down at tables with families, chefs, farmers, winemakers, rakija producers, artisans and passionate home cooks. Rather than trying to define Serbian cuisine from above, they discovered it from the ground up: plate by plate, story by story.

The result is At the Serbian Table: a travel-driven exploration of Serbia’s regional cuisine combining personal narratives, photography, cultural insights, illustrations, recipes and food-and-drink pairings.

The journey reveals a cuisine shaped by geography and centuries of cultural exchange. But the book is ultimately as much about people as it is about food. Behind every specialty is a place, a memory, a family tradition or someone determined to keep a particular craft alive.
It is this human side of Serbian gastronomy (and the extraordinary hospitality encountered along the way) that forms the heart of At the Serbian Table.
